I saw The Who...
and David Duchovny had a coldby pb on 29. Jun, 2009 | 1 Comment
Performer: The Who Venue: Pauley Pavilion - UCLA Year: 2008 City: Los Angles State: CA Country: USA
The Who is my favorite band – and even though the true Who expired in 1978, I still have interest in paying respect, and I get caught up in all the retrospective nonsense… documentaries, tributes, influence shout outs ‘n shit. This was a wank fest, for 2 old rich Brits who’ve been busy selling off their legacy to car commercials and TV themes for the past 20 years – filmed for VH1 in a basketball gym with the acoustic qualities of a prison toilet – and I loved every minute of it.
Observations:
-David Duchovny opened the show [why?] and had a cold, one week later he would check into rehab for sex addiction.
-Dave Grohl had a cold, or at least a blown voice, but still foo fighters tore into ‘Young Man Blues’ – ballsy even to attempt as the ‘oo’s version is the greatest live rock song on vinyl.
-Mila Kunis is hot – dumb as a soup spoon – but hot.
-The singer from Incubus wore wayfarers.
-I am a flaming lips fan – but they kind of blew
-standing around in front of the venue before doors open, Eddie Vedder was wheeled past us in golf cart. He was wearing white pants, and holding a beer.
-it’s the first time in my life where I was amongst the better looking men in the crowd – that includes the times I’ve gone to minor league hockey games. The Whooligans [american branch] are among the butt-fugliest collection of yobos ever to wear t-shirts with targets on them.
-Jeremy Piven had better seats than we did.

LOL. Great post!
I’m sorry to hear that the Flaming Lips sucked, though they do seem to be a better ’studio’ band than a ‘live’ band.
Love that the Incubus dude (Brandon something?) wore dork-goggles.
I’ve never seen The Who live, but really wish I could say I had. My brother saw them live in England (at Wembley!) for the ORIGINAL ‘reunion’ tour… he was in the right place at the right time.
And dude: Of COURSE Ari Gold had better seats than you! Ari Gold can get Vinny and his crew 5th row for U2!
