I only vaguely remember seeing this show, and frankly I’m surprised I kept the ticket stub.

I do remember that I went to this show ONLY because one of the janitors at our high school (with whom I was friendly, though I don’t recall her name anymore) had gotten tickets, and was unable to go. I bought the tickets from her and took a couple of buddies.

I wasn’t then, nor am I now, a fan of this iteration of The Beach Boys, featuring John Stamos, the actor who played Jesse Katsopolis on TV sitcom “Full House,” on percussion.

[Gesticulating the Scales of Justice] Hmmm. John Stamos. Hmmm. Brian Wilson. Hmm. Artistically, so similar.

/sarcasm.

I think my friends and I nodded at one another with cloudy recognition when they played (probably closing the show — I honestly don’t remember) the ‘big’ hit of the time, “Kokomo.”

Ouch.

Let’s just say it was no “Pet Sounds.”

I’m afraid I don’t have any cool pictures to upload. No concert ticket, no T-shirt, no band or “night of the show” photos… nothing. In fact, I sometimes question whether or not this show ever really happened, or if I just dreamed it up.

Hopefully, someone out there can corroborate this show.

I’m thinking it was between around 1991. I know I was working at a restaurant in Ann Arbor called “Bella Ciao,” while studying at The University of Michigan.

I remember befriending several music aficionados working in the kitchen (I was actually front-of-house at this particular restaurant), and it was one of them who suggested we walk down the street (about 2 blocks), to a tiny venue called “The Blind Pig” to see a show with three bands, only one of whom was ‘known’ at the time. So we did.

The ‘known’ band was The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who were headlining.

Two bands opened for the Chili Peppers: The Smashing Pumpkins, followed by Pearl Jam.

Does anyone out there remember this show? Was it part of a tour? Was it a fluke? Was it a figment of my imagination?!
