I saw Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins & Pearl Jam...

Performer: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins & Pearl Jam Venue: Blind Pig Year: 1991 City: Ann Arbor State: Michigan Country: United States
I’m afraid I don’t have any cool pictures to upload. No concert ticket, no T-shirt, no band or “night of the show” photos… nothing. In fact, I sometimes question whether or not this show ever really happened, or if I just dreamed it up.
Hopefully, someone out there can corroborate this show.
I’m thinking it was between around 1991. I know I was working at a restaurant in Ann Arbor called “Bella Ciao,” while studying at The University of Michigan.
I remember befriending several music aficionados working in the kitchen (I was actually front-of-house at this particular restaurant), and it was one of them who suggested we walk down the street (about 2 blocks), to a tiny venue called “The Blind Pig” to see a show with three bands, only one of whom was ‘known’ at the time. So we did.
The ‘known’ band was The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who were headlining.
Two bands opened for the Chili Peppers: The Smashing Pumpkins, followed by Pearl Jam.
Does anyone out there remember this show? Was it part of a tour? Was it a fluke? Was it a figment of my imagination?!

You are not mad. I saw this tour. It was 1991 (or 1992). Pearl Jam opened at our venue, in Boston somewhere. I remember my friend, Flint, said, “Those guys have something, there.” That show was a real highlight for me. =)

No kidding? How cool! I wonder if the bands switched the line-up on different nights. That would make sense to me, given that two of them had yet to become sensations. I mean, RHCP we’re already pretty well known, so did they headline the Boston show? That show WAS pretty cool, wasn’t it? I wish I still had my ticket stub!

I can coroborate. I was there. At the Pig, in Ann Arbor. There is a poster in the Pig at the front, near the bar (or at least there was, in 1999 or so, the last time I was there). I remember sneaking in the back door, as I was not 21, and slinking around the place getting the $1.50 Labbat off of friends.
I did the “grunge headbanging” thing to the Pearl Jam set, got booted out by the bouncer near the end of the Pumpkins set (tried to actually buy a beer at the bar…ummm…duh), and never saw RHCP.
