I saw Calobo too!!! a few times, twice in Michigan and once down in Ohio. I learned about Calobo during the summer of ‘93 when I was Camp Al-Gon-Quian. A friend, Matt A. was a friend of the band (enough so that he made the “Special thanks to…” list on there 1992 self titled albam) and he brought CD’s of them to camp and passed them out. The first time I saw them, ‘96, was at The Majic Bag, in Ferndale, MI, with a number of other AGQ folks. A couple of days later, a few of us did a mini road trip down to Toledo, OH. They were the opening band at some little dive bar (hot bartender, very punk rock, tats… different story) after they played I sat and talked to Dave Andrews (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar)for a couple of hours and got wasted… beer, beer, shot, beer… we talked about Chicago, they were headed there and were going to have some down time there, I had just gotten back from a visit to Chicago where I had gone to the Natural History Museum, the aquarium, the Chicago Institute of Art and so on. The next year, the closest that they were getting to Ann Arbor was Kalamazoo. I made a road trip out of it, left A2 and went to Travers City and stayed with Sloan for a day and then went down to K-zoo from there to see them. Hung with Dave a little again and he told me how they had a blast in Chicago the year before, going to all the places I suggested, it was just the break they needed.

  2. Great comment, Cam. I hope you’ll considering posting your own concert memories soon; you obviously have a lot of love and history with live music!
