I saw Les Miserables...

I am a big fan of Musicals ~ this may actually surprise some people that know me, but I have no limit to what I enjoy when it comes to music. That is not to say that I love ALL musicals but this one is my personal favorite. Even with the recent popularity of Mamma Mia! (which I also saw with my Mom and also really liked) I still have Les Miserables as the best. I have actually seen it several times, but this was the first time and with my Madre in Detroit, Michigan.
It is a cultural irony to see a Broadway Musical in Detroit because in that downtown area ~ there are clear signs of how much trouble Detroit is in with poverty, homelessness, hunger and general urban decay. And this was in 1992 ~
The Fisher Theatre is beautiful and it was a wonderful production ~ and impacted me deeply. When I listen to the CD of the musical I can still remember being Row C, Seat 13 that night. My Mom and I often get the songs stuck in our heads and can start singing them together without really even thinking about it. Then we have to get the CD out and re-live the experience of Les Miserables.
